What you won't find in Protocol for Life Balance™

It’s important to know what is included in every bottle of supplements.  It’s equally important to assure what is not included and why.  Protocol For Life Balance™ has the quality standards, lab expertise and GMP infrastructure to guarantee exactly what you won’t find in any of our products.  Sometimes the best surprise is no surprise.


Artificial Colors: Protocol For Life Balance™  does not use any artificial colors in our products. Many of the synthetic colors, especially the red dyes, have known toxicity. We use only natural colors such as annatto, beet, carob and chlorophyll.

Artificial Sweeteners: We use natural sweeteners such as xylitol and erythritol. We do not sell or use artificial sweeteners such as saccharin (Sweet’n Low®), sucralose (Splenda®), Ace-K or aspartame (Equal®). Although these artificial sweeteners are sold freely in the U.S., the evidence for long term toxicity has been questioned.         

Artificial Vitamin E:  Synthetic vitamin E (dl-alpha-tocopheryl) is chemically and physiologically different from the natural family of Vitamin E’s. The natural family of vitamin E’s consist of 4 tocopherols (including d-alpha-tocopherol) and 4 tocotrienols. Protocol For Life Balance™ only sells the natural forms.

D-Amino Acids: The natural form of amino acids is the L-form. Synthetic forms are the D-form or the DL-form. Protocol For Life Balance™ does not sell the synthetic forms; only natural L-Carnitine, L-Arginine, L-Glutamine, etc. You will not find any unnatural forms of amino acids in our line.

Ephedra and Bitter Orange: Today the FDA has banned Ephedra. But even during the years when Ephedra was legal, we never sold Ephedra. We have always been concerned about the side effects of Ephedra. Today, bitter orange is being used as a substitute for Ephedra. We have removed bitter orange from our formulas and we now do not sell bitter orange.

Genetic Modification: Protocol For Life Balance™ is opposed to genetic modification, because there are real and unknown harmful effects. Unfortunately, most of the world’s supply of soybeans has been genetically modified, and much of the corn produced is also genetically modified. Some of our products are not certified to be GMO-free, but we continue to strive to bring you a variety of

products that are certified GMO-free. When they are as such, we make sure that we declare “non-GMO” on the label.

Heavy metals: Natural botanicals and other products do contain heavy metals as naturally occurring. We ensure that the heavy metal content is completely safe and is equivalent to that naturally occurring or less.  A concern with fish oils is mercury and lead content.  All our fish oils are free of mercury and lead because they have been molecularly distilled. Aluminum is not allowed in any of our

supplements either.

Hormones: We do not sell androstenedione, estrogen, testosterone or DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone).  These are steroids and anabolic supplements that have many potentially harmful side effects.

Hydrogenated fats and trans-fats: Hydrogenation is a chemical process where unsaturated fats (vegetable oils) are chemically modified to make them more solid at room temperature. Trans-fats are a particular form of chemically modified fats. Both of these fats are unhealthy and have contributed to the obesity of America. We do not formulate any of our products with either of these types of fats.

 

Irradiation: Irradiation is used to kill bacteria. But irradiation also has side effects, transforming the natural components in herbs and botanicals to unnatural molecules.  We do not use irradiated products. Although very hard to detect, our microbiological tests can raise a red flag for the presence of irradiation.

Microbial contamination: Natural ingredients contain naturally occurring low levels of microbes. However, high microbial contamination, and contamination with pathogens and aflatoxin contamination, are unnatural. We have an in-house state-of-the-art microbiology lab staffed with professional and trained microbiologists that test our materials and products for microbial contamination.

Nanotechnology: The use of nanomaterials is leaps and bounds ahead of the safety data on nanotechnology. This technology is defined as having properties different from the normal material. Since we are as yet unsure of the safety of this new class of compounds, we have decided to wait until there is more evidence for safety before plunging in and regretting it later.

Non-Bovine Chondroitin: Chondroitin sulfate is a key ingredient in the fight for joint support. Clinical studies demonstrating efficacy are based of bovine Chondroitin. Our sophisticated in-house analytical testing does identify the animal source of Chondroitin and we do reject the unproven porcine and chicken forms.

Oxidation: Natural products oxidize when stored. To minimize this from happening, we include silica-gel packs to remove moisture, and Ageless® anti-oxygen packets, which reduce the oxidation and keep the product in the bottle as natural as possible.  Ageless packets are uniquely included in every appropriate Protocol For Life Balance™ product for absolute freshness and zero oxidation.

 

Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) and Propylene Glycol (PPG): PEG is antifreeze. PPG is in the same family. Protocol For Life Balance™ does not use any PEG or PPG in our supplements.

Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids: Some natural herbs contain these alkaloids which are hepatotoxins (liver toxins). Our chemists and formulators are careful to look for, and avoid, these potentially dangerous components.

Residues:  We spec and assay to assure our products are free of pesticide residue and solvent residue.  We are passionately driven to assure that every one of our products is free of such contaminants.

Titanium Dioxide and Phosphates: These synthetic ingredients are widely used as excipients in supplements. Excipients are added ingredients that have no nutritional value, but are added to improve processing or appearance. Protocol For Life Balance™ minimizes the use of these additives. In fact, almost all of our softgels are formulated to be free of titanium dioxide.

Cis-CoQ10: CoQ10 is a particularly important antioxidant enzyme. However, there are two forms – the all-natural and naturally produced trans-CoQ10 form, and the synthetic, cheaper cis-form. The trans- form is the form found in your body, while the cis- form is chemically different.  Protocol For Life Balance™ only sells the natural trans- form.
