Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme that is extracted from the stem and the fruit of the pineapple plant. It was once widely believed that most orally ingested enzymes are destroyed by the digestive juices in the stomach prior to being absorbed. However, it has been shown scientifically that Bromelain does not lose its potency as it travels through the stomach.
 
Bromelain is an enzyme with the ability to digest proteins. It is widely recognized for its potentially positive impact on joint and tissue health and many studies have shown that it may help to temporarily alleviate occasional pain and discomfort due to overexertion or minor stress.

Cautions and Interactions
Bromelain may thin the blood to some extent. It should not be combined with drugs such as warfarin or heparin except under the supervision of a physician. In addition, Bromelain may interact with certain antibiotics, such as tetracycline and amoxicillin, by increasing their levels in the blood.
