Other ingredients: Gelatin (capsule), Stearic Acid (vegetable source), Magnesium Stearate (vegetable source) and Cellulose. Contains no sugar, salt, starch, yeast, wheat, gluten, corn, soy, milk, egg, shellfish or preservatives. Acetyl-L-Carnitine is the Highest Grade Available. Acetyl L-Carnitine plays several important roles in the human body. Its main function is to carry fatty acids into mitochondria. Mitochondria are often referred to as the “cellular power plants” because they convert food molecules into energy. Without Acetyl L-Carnitine, fatty acids cannot enter into mitochondria. Therefore, the acetyl group of Acetyl L-Carnitine is important in the generation of energy from fats and facilitates this process. Acetyl L-Carnitine supplementation has been demonstrated to be a neuroprotective agent, especially for memory function in aging and for the support of blood flow into the brain. In addition, because the heart uses fat as its primary energy source, Acetyl L-Carnitine may have cardio-protective qualities that beneficially affect heart functions. Lastly, because oxidative mitochondrial decay is often a major contributor to aging, the supplementation of Acetyl L-Carnitine may also offer anti-aging benefits.* Cautions and Interactions Several pharmaceutical medications may increase the need for acetyl-l-carnitine, including AZT, Isotretinoin, and Valproic Acid. In addition, ALC may help to protect against the toxic side effects of Doxorubicin. This product is intended for the following protocol: Brain/Cognitive Support. *The statements herein have not been evaluated by the FDA.
